Compact NFO Viewer

Compact NFO Viewer – Welcome to underworld!

ASCII art is the ancient variety of computer graphics and images created by typing ASCII text characters. Most users encounter ASCII art in the form of NFO files, literally, "info" files; they're text files that Windows can open and display, albeit via a cumbersome process that uses Notepad. CubicDesign's Compact NFO Viewer is a great choice for folks who just need to open and view NFO files now and again as well as those who regularly handle NFO files, too. It's not often that a new ASCII art viewer comes along!

Compact NFO Viewer certainly is compact, at 670.5 KB; it's completely portable, too, requiring no installation or extraction. We simply ran the downloaded executable file, and Compact NFO Viewer's efficient interface opened with a black background in a blank main view. We clicked Open on the program's taskbar and browsed to an ASCII art file, which opened in an attractive green font, though font and background color are configurable via the Options menu. We were able to edit the document and save our changes, but only to the unprotected original; there's no "Save as" choice for renaming a file or creating a new file from the original. On the Options menu, we were able to associate the program with our NFO files by right-click or double-click. Compact NFO Viewer also extracts URLs from documents and displays them in its right-hand Navigator panel, which also links to some of the developer's other wares. We were able to toggle this panel open and closed via the Navigator menu. There's no Help menu, but there's little need for one; this is a simple, efficient program, and ASCII art is hardly mysterious.

Compact NFO Viewer is just the thing when you need to view and even edit NFO files. It beats Notepad, and it's probably better (or at least better looking) than the DOS-Age viewers still in use out there.

DAMN NFO Viewer

DAMN NFO Viewer 2.10.0032.RC3

The BEST utility for viewing text files containing ASCII Art (NFO/DIZ/TXT)

DAMN NFO Viewer is a tiny application that can lend you a hand when trying to open documents containing ASCII art, be they NFO, DIZ or TXT files.

In just a few words, DAMN NFO Viewer is a tiny utility that does exactly what its name suggests: helps you view NFO files that contain ASCII Art and other types of information. Many users rely on Notepad to address this problem, but DAMN NFO Viewer offers some extra features.

The installation process doesn't pose major problems and takes very little of your time. The application has a simple interface and a basic settings menu that enables you to configure a couple of options to make it even easier to use. Furthermore, it has a handy copy-on-select function that automatically copies the text you select, just like the feature we've seen in mIRC some years ago.

Additionally, it comes with drag and drop support, a separate feature to set background and text colors, as well as word wrap support, similar to Notepad.

The good thing about DAMN NFO Viewer is that it comes with a customizable appearance, so you can change some visual settings to make it a bit more appealing. In addition, it integrates shell integration and Unicode support, but also three word wrapping modes and smart line breaking.

Overall, DAMN NFO Viewer is definitely worth a try and in case Notepad isn't exactly what you're looking for, be sure to give this tiny tool a shot.

DAMN NFO Viewer is a very small utility for viewing text files containing ASCII Art (e.g. nfo files), and it proved itself to be handy. So... if you're fed up with starting some DOS-like file manager each time you need to view nfo file, or ain't too happy with the viewer you use, or (worst case) use Notepad - give this little tool a try.

    TeraCopy for Microsoft Windows

One of the most common complaints about newer versions of Windows is the slow copying speed, especially when transferring lots of files over the network. If you want to speed up your copying or if you regularly transfer large amounts of data and have to stop the process to perform some other disk-intensive task, this program may be just what you need. TeraCopy is designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed. It skips bad files during the copying process, and then displays them at the end of the transfer so that you can see which ones need attention. TeraCopy can automatically check the copied files for errors by calculating their CRC checksum values. It also provides a lot more information about the files being copied than its Windows counterpart. TeraCopy integrates with Windows Explorer's right-click menu and can be set as the default copy handler.

    • Copy files faster TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce the seek times. Asynchronous copying speeds up the file transfer between two physical hard drives.
    • Pause and resume file transfer activities Pause the copy process at any time in order to free up system resources and continue with a single click.
    • Error recovery In case of a copy error, TeraCopy will try several times to recover and, in the worse case scenario, will simply skip the file, not terminating the entire transfer.
    • Interactive file list TeraCopy shows the failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only the problem files.
    • Shell integration TeraCopy can completely replace the Explorer copy and move functions, in turn enabling you to work with files as usual.
    • Full Unicode support.
    • Windows 8 x64 support.
